International Friendly Netherlands vs Peru Spread and PredictionNetherlands missed out on the 2018 World Cup due to a pretty bad run in the qualifiers. They will now gear up for the 2020 EURO Cup, and will play some friendlies and some matches in the UEFA Nations Cup.

They will start with an international friendly at home against Peru on Thursday. Oddly enough, Peru actually made it to the World Cup this summer but didn’t have a lot of success. This will be a great test for Netherlands, who will also bid farewell to an iconic player in this match, Wesley Sneijder.

Spread: Netherlands -0.75

Total: 2.25 Goals

Netherlands failed miserably in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, despite being in a pretty easy group. However, a bad set of results against some of the lesser teams in that group left them in need of a six-goal win against Sweden in the last match.

They did win, but only by 0-2 and finished 3rd to eventually miss the train. They are now under new coach Ronald Koeman, who has already played four friendlies since his arrival (1-1-2). The Oranje will use this match in order to prepare for a tough battle in the UEFA Nations League, where they are up against Germany and France in their group.

This match will be the last match for winger Wesley Sneijder who is retiring from the national team. The squad is fresher than ever, as the Dutch have a great history in creating wonderkids.

On the other hand, Peru did a stunning job in the CONMEBOL qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup. A great run in their last set of matches enabled them to finish at the 5th spot of the 10-team group. They played a two-legged playoff match against New Zealand and eventually booked their ticket to the World Cup.

Peru actually dropped out in the group stage, but were quite the tough nut to crack. This time around they made seven changes in their squad, with talismanic forward Paulo Guerrero missing out due to a ban. They will now rely on the 33-year-old Jefferson Farfan to handle the offensive duties, with Cristian Cueva right behind him.

This will be the fourth encounter between the two sides, with Peru having never won against the Netherlands (0-2-1). The only competitive match the two teams have played was a goal-less draw in the 1978 World Cup group stage.

Peru are always hard to beat, and they showed exactly that in the recent World Cup. But Netherlands will be looking for their first home win under new coach Ronald Koeman. They will also be looking to give a nice farewell to Wesley Sneijder. I expect the home team to cover the spread here, and Sneijder to score in his last match.
